What is the annual campaign?
Tuition and fees do not cover the entire annual budget, so the school raises funds from individual, corporate, and foundation donors to cover the balance each year. The annual campaign goal is $60,000.
What does the annual campaign fund?
The annual campaign provides need-based financial aid to families, supports teacher training, and covers expenses related to special projects and facility improvements. In 2016-17, 19% of Step One families received financial aid to offset their school tuition and fees.
Why does Step One offer financial aid?
Some of our Step One families could not attend without our financial aid program, whose mission is to promote inclusiveness—a core value of the school. The annual campaign allows us to raise about half of the $118,000+ in aid we award. We also seek funding from outside granting agencies, many of which consider a robust financial aid program to be a positive and influential factor in their funding decisions.
Why is the school considered a non-profit organization?
Step One School exists solely to provide programming, services, and opportunities for the benefit of our community. Our vision is to be a model of excellence in early childhood education, thus inspiring our larger society to an elevated commitment to its young children. As a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization, we rely on tuition payments, outside grants, and charitable giving from donors like you to fulfill our mission. All contributions made to Step One’s annual campaign are 100% tax-deductible.
What if I can only make a small contribution?
We know that every family’s ability to give is different. Each year we receive a wide range of gifts from $5 to $5,000. To ensure we reach our goal, we approach a variety of supporters: board members, current families, alumni families, grandparents, faculty and staff, and business friends. In addition, the same granting agencies that review our financial aid program also assess our community’s commitment through annual campaign participation. No gift is too small, and every gift makes a difference.
Do I have to make my gift now, or can I make payments on a pledged gift?
Monthly payments are an option and can be charged to your credit card (see the pledge envelope). Pledges are to be paid by July 31st.
What if we exceed the goal?
It would be a great success if the Step One community could exceed this year’s $60,000 annual campaign goal! Funds raised over the goal go to teacher training and cover expenses related to special projects and facility improvements. In previous years, we have made capital improvements, such as the outdoor kitchen and two bathrooms, and have been able to send teachers to additional training events.
Can Step One accept matching donations from other sources?
As a non-profit, we benefit from corporate matching funds—ask the H/R department at your work—and we are registered with United Way (our #11449,) should you wish to make a donation to the school through your employer.
