Step One School - Gardening Program

The Children's Garden
Welcome to Step One School's Children's Garden Project. The seeds of our garden are sown and tended to by the children of our school, and it is an integral part of the classroom curriculum. Step One's garden curriculum provides many opportunities to learn experientially about the value of where our food comes from, and how it is grown, knowledge of insects, and the cycles of life.
CarrotsThrough the garden project, children learn how compost, prepare and enrich soil, plant seeds, care for what has been planted, and of course, harvest organic seasonal fruits and vegetables. In fact, each of our classrooms works to incorporate the tasty fruits of our labor into a weekly snack, whereby the children get to enjoy the organic foods that they helped to grow!

Children can take the path or climb up to an overlook which in clear weather has a view of the Bay and the Golden Gate Bridge. Hillside Overlook
