“Friends Forever Fund” – Growing 25 Years of Fun & Friendship
This year marks a special moment for Step One: It’s our 25th Anniversary! Step One has been nurtured through the labor of love and dedication of its community of teachers. For more than 20 years the “Step One Six”, Charlie, Eric, Gege, Sue, Tina and Zeena have played their special roles in attracting a community of equally dedicated teachers and staff. Step One is fortunate to have an unusual proportion of long-term employees who serve principles that honor early childhood education and our East Bay diversity to create the wonderful learning environment we and our children enjoy. Now the Board of Trustees has inaugurated a special “Friends Forever Fund” to honor the “Step One Six.” This Fund will raise monies for major improvements to the professional environment in which present and future Step Onederful teachers will work their magic: thus ensuring that Step One continues to thrive well into the next twenty-five years. After years of focusing on the “heart and soul” of Step One (our people & program), it is now time to focus on invigorating the very space that holds us all The goal of the Fund is to position Step One to deepen its roots and encourage new growth shoots by focusing on the next twenty-five years for the next generations of children to come. From dreams of an outdoor kitchen that engages the children in our year-round garden program (to eat salad!), to creating a larger and more comfortable teacher-parent meeting space, to expanding the anti-bias and emergent curriculum at Step One---there is a lot more in store for this fairytale come true.
